There is news that some businessmen who are transporting tonnes of Tomatoes from across the country are seeking police protection for their vehicles.
They are moving around 18 to twenty tonnes of Tomatoes in crates in huge lorries. They are apprehensive that the thieves might stop the lorries and take away the crates.
Some agriculturists have employed night security guards in the field so that no one would pluck the tomatoes at night. The Tomatoes sellers are also maintaining a night vigil for the tomato crates in the markets and mandis.
The sellers are not giving a single piece extra while weighing. Hotels have stopped using Tomatoes as they are costly. Tamarind and Nimbu that is Lemon are being used in place of Tomatoes.
The rise in the rates will continue for another two months. The poor people in many areas have stopped usage of Tomatoes. Even Mirchi is on the higher side.
The sales of green mirchi have come down to a larger extent due to high rates. Red Mirchi powder is being used in place of green Mirchi. There is some disturbance in the Kitchens because of the high rates.
The Onion is affordable and it is being used as usual on a big way. The Mirchi Bhajji seller have jacked up rupees 5 per plate and are not serving Tomato Chutney.
They are giving putana chutney. Mirchi has replaced lal mirchi powder in Chudwa and other items. Lets hope the rates will come down soon. The central government is selling Tomato with Subsidy at Rs8O per KG.
