Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 95-year-old mother Heeraben on Tuesday walked to a bank in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar to exchange banned Rs. 500 notes.

Visuals showed Heeraben Modi being assisted by a group of people as she signed documents to swap banned currency. She reportedly stood in the queue.

She came on a wheelchair but walked when she arrived at the bank. She later posed with a brand new Rs. 2,000 note handed to her.

On Monday, PM Modi had urged Indians to bear with him for 50 more days, saying he knew that they were in pain. “I am really pained by the inconvenience and that is why I am working tirelessly to help people overcome this situation,” he told a large gathering in Uttar Pradesh.

Millions across the country have stood in queues at banks and ATMs since the Prime Minister suddenly pulled out the two biggest currency notes from circulation last Tuesday.
