The BJP’s seventh term in power in Gujarat will begin today with a grand oath ceremony for Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who replaced Vijay Rupani in September last year, ahead of the elections in the state.
PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the oath-taking ceremony and around 25 Ministers might take oath today.
Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states and allies will also attend. The list includes Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Assam’s Himanta Biswa Sarma, Haryana’s Manohar Lal Khattar, Madhya Pradesh’s Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Karnataka’s Basavaraj Bommai, Uttarakhand’s Pushkar Singh Dhami, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and his Deputy Devendra Fadnavis. BJP chief JP Nadda, senior leader BL Santosh and MPs who have campaigned in Gujarat will also be present.
The unprecedented BJP sweep has pushed the Congress and Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party to the sidelines. The Congress — which gave the BJP a scare in 2017 with 77 seats and confined the party to only 99 — won only 17 seats this time.
