On the occasion of DurgaNavratri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a nine-day fasting period starting from Thursday. During this period, Modi offer prayers to goddess Durga and only have water for nine days.
Modi has been observing these fasts for over four decades and there has not been much change in his working schedule during this period.
The Prime Minister will take part in over a dozen programme to be held in his constituency Varanasi in the next two days.
During Navratri, Modi offers prayers at various Shaktipeeth — Kamakhya temple in Assam, Ambaji temple in Gujarat.
On Dussehra, Modi performs Shastra Puja (worship of weapons). During his tenure as the Gujarat Chief Minister, he used to perform Shastrapuja along with security personnel from 2001 to 2004.
The regular schedule of the PM continues despite his fasting .
