Peaceful polling in UP -First phase

Brisk polling in the early hours was witnessed today in UP So far the polling was peaceful by and large. The police have made elaborate bundobust arrangements for the polling.

The fight is between Yogi and Akhilesh. This time the Muslims are not with the MIM. In the first of the seven-phase election, 58 assembly constituencies in 11 districts of the state will go to the polls.

The districts where the elections will be held are Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Shamli, Hapur, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Agra and Mathura.

The polling will start at 7 am and will end at 6 pm. As many as 623 candidates are in the fray in the first phase and around 2.27 crore people are eligible to vote in this phase.

The first phase will see voting in western UP and Doab regions of the state. In western UP, a region that is dominated by the Jat community, the BJP has fielded 17 Jat candidates. BJP’s rivals, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), have fielded 12 and six Jat candidates, respectively.
