The old notes are still pouring in . Mainly into the Hundis of the temples across the country. Lord Blaji is one god who is getting these old currency in large numbers. The lord also gets currency of various countries in the Hundi , but they are valid notes. From India Balaji is getting old notes which are not valid.
Lord Venkateswara Swamy in Tirumala is also suffering from Demonetization woes. Even though the old 500 and 1000 Notes are not legal tenders after December 30th, 2016, Devotees continue to put them in Srivari Hundi.
In the month of January, more than 4 Crore old Currency was put in Hundis. Banks are not accepting these cash. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) recently wrote to RBI to accept this cash but then there was no response it is reported.
Lok Sabha had passed a bill saying that these Old Currency Notes are no longer the legal tender and with that, TTD’s hopes are almost dashed. On the other side, TTD officials are expecting that the Old Currency Notes will continue to come into Hundis at least for the next couple of months. But then this cash is as good as mere papers for the Lord as no one will accept them as Legal Tenders.
There is no way the officials or the vigilance can monitor as to what people are putting into the Hundis. This old notes issue will easily continue for another 3 months time. It is better for the TTD officials to put up small sign boards or urge the pilgrims via media not to put old notes in Hundis any more.
