BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha lashed out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the caste census debate. She questioned as to why the Congress party, which ruled the country for 60 years, did not take up the BC caste census so far. She termed Rahul Gandhi’s comments on caste census ironic. MLC Kavitha went on to question both the BJP and the Congress parties for not speaking so far on the very important issue of formation of a separate ministry for BCs at the Centre. She reminded about the resolve of Telangana CM KCR towards social justice who had passed a resolution in the assembly to provide 33 percent reservation for BCs after the formation of Telangana and demanded that the BC Commission should be given legitimacy.
While participating in the Nayi Brahmin meeting held at Nizamabad on Tuesday, Kavitha raised these important points.
She said that Rahul Gandhi suddenly remembered about BC caste census in the past five, six days whereas CM KCR has been committed to the cause from the moment the state was formed. When CM KCR became CM in 2014, he passed a resolution in the assembly to give 33 percent reservation to BCs. Kavitha said that BRS was the first party to demand that legitimacy to BC Commission and due to the BRS party’s continued efforts the Commission got the legitimacy in 2015-2016.
She criticized both the BJP and Congress parties for not talking about setting up a separate ministry at the Center for BCs, who are the largest population in the country. She questioned why the Congress party did not think about it during their 60 years of rule. Kavitha said everyone should take note of Rahul Gandhi talking about it now. Everyone is requested to observe this matter.
Kavitha also said the BRS government took it upon themselves to conduct a comprehensive family survey within one day of state formation which enabled them to effectively provide welfare schemes to all communities.
Kavitha said that it is high time all parties take note of the importance of caste census to ensure social justice to all the BCs in the country. Kavitha said, even in women’s reservation, there should be a quota for BC women.
She pointed out how Rahul Gandhi’s is making those statements just before elections unlike CM KCR who has always made BC welfare his priority.
