MS Dhoni of RPS added another feather to his cap during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match against DD. The former India skipper went past Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara to become the only wicketkeeper to take 124 catches in Twenty20 cricket.
MS Dhoni reached the milestone for most catches by a wicket-keeper in Twenty-20 cricket by taking a breathtaking catch of Delhi Daredevils’ Marlon Samuels off Daniel Christian at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
Samuels tried to hook a short ball from Dan Christian, but the West Indian only managed a top edge to it. A watchful Dhoni then timed his jump to perfection and fully stretched himself to lob the ball without any fuss. hough Dhoni tried to make it look like a regulation catch, it was quite a difficult one.
Dhoni took another catch of Delhi Daredevils’ Shreyas Iyer and also effected a sharp stumping to dismiss Corey Anderson off Washington Sundar. MSD’s 64 stumpings are the second most in Twenty-20 cricket after Kamran Akmal’s 90 stumpings in 189 innings of 197 matches.
The 35-year old has played for India cricket team, Chennai Super Kings, Jharkhand state cricket team and Rising Pune Supergiant in Twenty-20 cricket since making his debut for the country against South Africa at Johannesburg on December 1, 2006.
It was the former Indian skipper’s 124th catch in 248 innings of 261 matches in Twenty-20 cricket. Sangakkara, who took 123 catches in 177 innings of 235 matches, held the record so far.
