Neera is Gods gift says Excise Minister Srinivas Goud. This is nothing but medicine and not to belittle some one or some community clarified the Minister.
He talked about Veda Amrutam name as it originated from the vedas. He said that it was in the vedas where gods have given the Neera he said. Neera is being branded as Vedamrutam by the Government.
He opined that there was nothing wrong with the branding. There is no alcohol in this drink he clarified. It is taken from the trees, stored and served to the customers with medicinal values he stated.
Neera is different and Toddy is different he explained. Some astrologers and Brahmins are objecting to the name after the Vedas. A building is also getting ready on the banks of Hussain Sagar for the refining and storage of Neera and served to the customers.
Neera is drawn from the Eetha trees before the sun rise. If it is drawn after sunrise it becomes toddy. People have been consuming it for decades together and vedas branded it as surapanam meaning gods drink.
Now some sections of society are objecting on the name Vedamrutham. There is nothing create the hungama after the name the Minister explained.
It has to be seen how far the issue continues and if the Government withdraws the name. The name Neera cola was also proposed earlier.
