Former French President Hollande dropped a bombshell on the Indian Government that it has proposed Reliance for the Rafale deal and that they had no role in selecting Reliance. The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been time and again implicating Modi and his government for favouring the Reliance in Rafale deal saying that they had no experience in the defence manufacturing or dealing with the arms.
Rahul has also charged that the Modi Government has betrayed the jawans by compromising on the defence deal with the Reliance for his personal ends. Prime Minister Modi and defence Minister Nirmala Seetharama denied the allegations and said that the allegations from Rahul Gandhi were politically motivated.
The French Government amply clarified that they have to give a good aircraft and deliver it. They had no role in choosing or suggesting any partner. The Indian Government suggested Reliance and they had nothing to do with it. The French government said that we had no choice and we have negotiated with Anil Ambani group for the deal as suggested by the Indian Government.
Earlier in the Parliament Rahul challenged that Modi will not be able to see eye to eye with him over the Rafale deal. The statement from the French counterpart indicates that the NDA Government proposed Anil Ambani group for the deal.
