K Chandrasekhar Rao the Telangana CM earlier in his statement on 12 per cent quota to Muslims said that the courts have no right to stop or decide over the reservations or the quota. He said that the reservations will depend on the socio-economic conditions of the respective states and that the local rulers have to decide over it.
If needed the constitution should be amended to suit the needs of the respective states in providing the reservations he said. Perhaps he was the first CM to say openly that the courts have no right to decide or impose restrictions on the reservations.
In the same fashion, the bill for the 12 per cent reservations for the Muslims was passed in the Telangana state Assembly and was sent to the central Government.
Now the BJP Government under Narendra Modi exactly did the same by amending the constitution. This is said to be a historic decision and a masterstroke from the NDA regime. Giving reservations to upper caste EBCs is the need of the hour. That is what Modi did just before the elections and it will pay rich dividends to the BJP.
In fact KCR the Telangana CM also wanted to do the same, but he had this issue of 12 per cent Muslims reservations. Even if Modi was aiming for political gains, there is nothing wrong in it. The BJP government was also wanting to give reservations to the Economically backward people from the beginning but it was waiting for an opportune time to amend the constitution. Now there was no other way but to do it as they have lost the 3 states in Assembly elections.
They want to bury this Rafale controversy in the EBC quota and they have finally succeeded.
The EBC quota will give a boost to the vote bank definitely and it is advantage BJP.
