KTR in the morning has reviewed the rain situation with senior GHMC and other officials. He said that 80 per cent of the tanks and lakes in and around the City were filled to the brim.
He asked the officials to map the rain hit areas and accordingly take up remedial measures. KTR asked the police personnel to participate in flood relief work.City witnessed another severe spell of rain late on Thursday, flooding many areas. Weathermen have warned of more rains in the next 48 hours.
On the other hand “A heavy rainfall alert has been issued for the next 24 hours. Low-pressure conditions now exist over northern Telangana,” an IMD meteorologist said. “Another low-pressure weather system is forming in the Bay of Bengal.”
Heavy spell of rain that began three days ago due to low-pressure conditions over coastal Andhra Pradesh continued in Telangana.
Moula Ali, located in north-eastern Hyderabad received around 22 cm in the last 24 hours. India Meteorological Department located at Begumpet recorded five centimetres of rain since Thursday 8.30 p.m.
The state government had declared a two-day school holiday for Thursday and Friday but reports of schools not heeding came from several areas of the city. The State had also advised IT and ITES companies to let employees work from home these two days.
The situation was somewhat grim in Alwal area as three major tanks were filled up and excess was entering the nearby colonies. Rain water continued to inundate Reddy Enclave in Alwal for the third consecutive day. The excess water from three tanks in Alwal joined the Hashtmathpet lake compounding the woes of the local residents.
Hussain Sagar water level continued to remain above the lake’s Full Tank Level of 513.41 meters despite water being let out. Officials informed that the inflow of 5,500 cusecs was higher than the outflow.
Four persons are feared dead in Medak district as several parts of Telangana came under sheet of water due to heavy rains since Wednesday.
As per the latest reports reaching Hyderabad , four persons died in Medak district in the last 12 hours – Kalavathi (35) and Tulasi (eight) – died after a house collapsed at Medak town. Shammama (60) died when wall collapsed at Mubarakpur in Sadashivapet mandal.
Swamy (45) was washed away in rain water while trying to save his son in Kongur village of Kulcharam mandal. Though the son was saved father went missing and it is feared that he was washed away.
Due to overflowing of tanks and lakes, connectivity was cut among several villages at Manoor, Kangti, Kalher, Narayanakhed.Average rain fall in the district was registered as 10.3 c.m., with Chinnashankarampet 21.1 c.m., Kangti 16.5, Kalher 15, Gawjel 14.5, Shivampet 14.3, Toopran 14, Toguta 13 and Sangareddy 10 c.m. rain fall.
