Former Minister & ex-Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir has expressed deep condolences over the demise of 8th Nizam Nawab Mir Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah Bahadur. He has conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family.

“Mukarram Jah Bahadur has served the people of Hyderabad by forming several charitable trusts and institutions. His contribution in serving the people, especially in the fields of education and medicine was exemplary.

He will be remembered not only as the 8th Nizam (titular) of Hyderabad but as an individual who always cared about his people from his homeland,” Shabbir Ali said in his condolence message.

Shabbir Ali said that Mukarram Jah was a friend of India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

“In 1989, when I became a minister in Dr. Marri Chenna Reddy’s cabinet, I, along with former Home Minister M.M. Hashim invited Mukarram Jah to Hyderabad. He accepted our request and visited Hyderabad after a very long time. Although we urged him to stay permanently in Hyderabad, he increased the frequency of his visits to the city,” he recalled.

He said despite living in Turkey, Mukarram Jah Bahadur never disassociated himself from his motherland Hyderabad and tried to help the people in every possible form. “His last wish of getting buried after death in Hyderabad shows his love and attachment to the city,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Shabbir Ali had Tweeted demanding that the State Govt declare an official holiday as a mark of respect for the 8th Nizam and also for conducting the last rites with the highest State honours. He thanked Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for accepting his demand.
