Budameru breaches are being closed. But more rains are expected and there is trouble for the people.During the 24 hours ending at 8.30am on Thursday, Anakapalle district recorded the highest rainfall of 11cm, followed by 7cm rainfall each in Dowleswaram (East Godavari), Gudivada (Krishna) and Masulipatnam (Krishna), 6cm each in Velairpad, Kukunoor and Kaikalur (Eluru) and Bhimavaram (West Godavari), and 5cm each in Kunavaram (ASR),Vijayawada (NTR), Nuzvid (Eluru), Eluru, and Anakapalle.
Both short-term and long-term measures are being planned for the future. The decades-old Prakasam barrage needs to be repaired long term, and new gates need to be placed to stop the inflow of water.
CM Chandrababu is monitoring the situation very closely. All kinds of essentials are being supplied and also sold at a lower rate for the benefit of the flood affected people in Vijayawada.
The central teams are assessing the loss and immediate relief and financial help will be provided by the centre.
