Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram alleged that Prime Minister Modi was trying to capture RBI for using it during the elections 2019. The RBI is in a fiscal crisis and Modi wants to reign in on the board members on November 19 during the board meeting he charged. He said that the Government was demanding one lakh crore from the RBO to tide over the crisis and also sued the money for implementing welfare measure to woo the public for the coming elections. But the Chairman of the RBI Urgit Patel and his deputy are standing the ground against the government that it was not wise to allocate Rs one lakh crore to the Government.
The Modi government is taking the finance and the RBI in a very wrong direction he alleged. If the RBI Governor Urjit resigns the consequences will be very bad he opined. The Government must stop tinkering into the affairs of the RBI he stated. The RBI must also stay out of the political compulsions and remain autonomous he opined. There are rumours that the RBI Governor might step down on November 19 during the board meeting. The Finance Minister Jaitley, on the other hand, has expressed his discontent over the way the RBI was functioning.
