TRS MP from Telangana Banda Prakash has demanded that the Medaram Jathara popular as the Kumbh Mela of the south must be declared as the National festival.
Making a point at the Rajya Sabha today Prakash requested the central Government that the Central Government must set up a National museum here in Medaram.
He said that the Jathara is popular across the world and that an among of Rs 1000 crore should be allocated by the centre for the development of Medaram and the surrounding areas.
Prakash said that lakhs of pilgrims are participating in the Jathara and still a lot of them are expected in the coming 3 days which are very important.
He suggested that the centre must also take part in the event and develop the area in a big with the amenities so that it becomes a National pilgrim centre.
The state government has decided that it would be a plastic-free Jathara. Big B Amitabh Bachchan is the brand ambassador for the event.
