Dr MCR HRD Institute of Telangana celebrated Civil Services Day with Gaiety and Fervor. The 86 Indian Statistical Service (ISS) & 26 Indian Economic Service (IES) Officers, from across the country, who are attending Special Foundation Course at the Institute, participated in the celebrations, with enthusiasm. As a part of the celebrations, the Institute organized lectures on innovative schemes conceptualized and executed by Government of Telangana. Another highlight of the celebrations was the presentation of Policy Papers by a whopping 27 Groups of the ISS & IES Officers on different aspects of Indian Economy.
Professor Amitabh Kundu, former Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University delivered Keynote Address on “Emerging India…2047” in the Concluding Session of the Civil Services Day Celebrations. Professor Kundu said, with a sense of pride that the 21st Century belongs to Asia in general and to India in particular. He underlined the need to thoroughly enrich and diversify the skill sets of the youth, especially those who belong to weaker sections of society, including Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and Minorities. “Sab ka Sath, Sab ka Vikas, and Sab ka Wishwas should be the mantra for making full use of the new opportunities brought in by the 21st century in its wake ”, he opined.
Professor Kundu called upon the ISS & IES Officers to undertake the responsibility of building a robust data system, to analyze the statistics with rigor and objectivity, and to help different departments in preparing their vision of inclusive and sustainable development and thereby helping the Government in fulfilling the promises that it has made to the people of the country. “In recommending the desired course of action, the ISS & IES Officers must rise above the short-term gains of a pressure group and recommend a path which will promote development for all, with cooperation and trust of all, as announced”, he added.
Sri Benhur Mahesh Dutt Ekka, IAS, DG of the Institute & Principal Secretary to Government of Telangana, who also spoke on this occasion, recalled the very first 1947 address of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel to the first batch of Civil Servants at the Metcalfe House in Delhi from where the famous “Civil Service as steel frame of India” quote came in. He talked about the generalist vs specialist debate and emphasized that both have an equally important role to play in the development of the country. He announced that the best Policy Papers presented by the ISS & IES Officers will be shared with the DoPT, Government of India.
