Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not present the Vishwa Bharathi awards due to the paucity of time it is reported. Mamatha who made Hungama at the JDS CM Gowda swearing ceremony against the lady DGP, now says that she was shocked to hear that the PM was not giving the awards and she said she does not want to make politics here. They are called as Desikkottam Vishwa Bharati Awards and PM not be presenting them.
Sen the officiating VC of the awards said that the awards presentation ceremony has been deferred and that a special function for the same would be organised to give away the awards. The West Bengal CM Mamatha said that she was very unhappy with the decision of the PM and also said that she was shocked.
Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, author Amitav Ghosh, poet Gulzar, writer Suniti Kumar Pathak, Rabidra Sangeet exponent Dwijen Mukherjee, physicist Ashok Sen and painter Jogen Chowdhury were shortlisted in May for the ‘Desikottam’ awards. The university executive council had approved the names in May.
The PM was supposed to honour them but due to lack of time, the function was deferred.
