This time the Ganesh idol will be made to suit new policies in order to avoid complications with the ongoing metro constructions and also go for an eco-friendly environment.
Like every year, the tallest Ganesh idol will be installed in Khairatabad, the heart of the city. The idol is being made of mud and water colours with PoP as a holding agent.
Forty five persons from Chennai are working to get the Khairatabad Ganesh idol ready for the festival on August 25. The main idol, Chandi Kumara Ananta Maha Ganapathi, will be flanked by a Shiva idol on the right and Mahishashura Mardhini on the left. This is the 63rd Ganesh festival of the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Samiti, which has capped the height of the idol at 57 foot.
Samiti member Raj Kumar said work on the idol began on June 22 after Ekadashi. The committee is yet to decide on the weight of the laddoo, he said. With Hyderabad celebrating in the fervour of Ganesh Chaturthi, the famous Khairatabad Ganesh, will be nearly 57 feet tall this year. This is one feet less than last year. The 11-day festival witnesses thousands of people participating in the event and seek blessings of Lord Ganesh.
The construction of the idol begins three months prior to the festival day with 200 workers led by sculpturist works on it. Interestingly, a laddu weighing 5600 kg was placed on the left hand of the Khairatabad Ganesh idol during the festivity and on the eleventh day, the massive laddu was auctioned with the money given to a charitable fund. This time weight is yet to be decided.
On the 11th day, a big procession takes place and the Ganesh idol is immersed at Hussain Sagar Lake with the help of cranes. The “Khairatabad Ganesh” was initiated by late Mr. S. Sankarayya, who was a freedom fighter and since then it has been the grandest Ganesh Utsav in Hyderabad.
