Mahankali Jathara will be celebrated in Secunderabad and Hyderabad by the end of July 30 and 31st. Bonalu also Knows as Asahadam Jathara will be celebrated in about 116 temples across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. This is done on every Sunday and Monday. The food is cooked for the god and offered with the sacrifice of either a hen or a goat. The animal sacrifice is not allowed by the Government but it is done by the side of the Temples.
Non Veg is a must in the houses for this Jathara. At Lal Baazar Temple even the Christians and also the Muslims come to the temple and it is done here on Wednesday and Thursday. This Jathara is being done since decades and goes back to about 165 years. People say with the offerings Mahankali or Kalimatha or Maisamma feels happy and takes care of the people and children. We get good rains with her blessing that is what people believe.
The ladies and gents who come to the temples with Teen mar, dance to the tunes. Some offer Toddy to the goddess. They also drink in open and dance with joy in the name of the goddess Mahankali. People in rural areas call her Poleramma and believe that she protects the crops and also the cattle.That is the reason small temples are constructed in the agriculture fields and worshipped so that she protects the crops and the cattle.
On Mondays, there is this ritual called Rangam and there a lady gives us the future prediction about the rains and also the lives of the people. She cautions about the epidemics and suggests the remedies also. The lady stands on a wet pot and gives the Bhavishyavani.
