The killer of Rauf Merchant has got a life sentence by the Court. The 2002 verdict was upheld by the court today in the Gushan Kumar shoot out the case.

Gulshan Kumar was shot dead when he was coming out of the Temple. Rauf is the aid of Dawood Ibrahim. Gushan is the founder of the T-Series music company and is popular as the cassette king.

The court also dismissed an appeal by the state government against the acquittal of accused Ramesh Taurani of Tips Industries.

A division bench of Justice S S Jadhav and Justice N R Borkar noted that Abdul Rauf Dawood Merchant had “criminal antecedents.” “He is not entitled to remission as he absconded right after his arrest.

Rauf was released on furlough in 2009. His conviction continued as he fled parole and continued with his criminal activities. Hence in the interest of justice at large, he does not deserve any leniency,” the bench said.

The court also partly allowed an appeal by the state against the acquittal of accused Abdul Rashid Dawood Merchant, brother of Abdul Rauf. Abdul Rashid will suffer imprisonment for life.
