Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Taraka Rama Rao instructed the district administration to be on high alert and take all precautionary measures to avert any untoward incidents.
KTR spoke to district Collector D Krishna Bhaskar and Superintendent of Police Rahul Hegde over the phone and enquired about the situation in the district.
Rama Rao said the district had been experiencing heavy rainfall for the last two days and the situation would likely continue for three more days. In the wake of the weathermen’s forecast of heavy rains for a few more days, district officials should ensure field-level officers are available in the local areas and arrange warning boards at overflowing rivulets. “It is also necessary to erect signboards indicating diversions,” he said.
The Minister advised the officials to coordinate with public representatives and officials of departments concerned to avert any untoward incidents.
KTR asked the officials to take precautionary measures at small rivulets that invariably overflow onto roads in rural areas. Stating that Upper Manair Dam was overflowing, the Minister instructed officials to take measures to avoid untoward incidents on the reservoir bund.
