Advisor to Telangana Government (SC, ST, OBC & Minorities) Mohammed Ali Shabbir expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr Syed Shah Khusro Hussaini, the esteemed Sajjada Nasheen of Hazrath Khaja Bande Nawaz Dargah in Kalaburagi (Gulbarg), Karnataka, and lauded his far-reaching contributions to education and Sufism.

Shabbir Ali said Dr Khusro Hussaini, who passed away at 79, left a significant legacy in educational reform and spiritual leadership. He noted his transformative efforts in advancing educational opportunities for generations of students.

Dr Hussaini’s leadership saw the establishment of the Khaja Banda Nawaz Institute of Medical Sciences (KBNIMS) in 2000, a pioneering medical institution that improved healthcare education in the region. The institute has since grown to be a reputable centre for medical training, fulfilling Dr Hussaini’s vision of bridging healthcare access and educational quality.

In August 2018, Dr Khusro Hussaini achieved another milestone by establishing Khaja Bandanawaz University, an institution dedicated to higher learning that integrates academic and spiritual education.

The university was envisioned as an extension of his family’s legacy of spreading Islamic and Sufi teachings while creating a platform for academic excellence. Shabbir Ali praised Dr Hussaini’s efforts to make the university the first in India affiliated with a Dargah, blending secular and religious education in a way that appealed to students across diverse backgrounds. His initiatives significantly increased educational facilities and provided local students with access to quality education within their region.
