Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directed the lawmakers and the government officials to take precautionary measures on war footing as water levels are rising in the Godavari River.
With heavy rains lashing across the State resulting in heavy inflows into the irrigation projects including Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) and other water bodies the CM has suggested the officials be alert.
KCR instructed Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy to remain on alert and take precautionary measures in the wake of heavy rains in the Nizamabad district especially the Balkonda constituency.
The Chief Minister directed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to deploy NDRF teams immediately as several parts of Nirmal town was inundated. He asked the Collectors, Superintendents of Police and Revenue as well as Roads and Buildings department officials in the districts along the Godavari River banks, to take precautionary measures to prevent any inconvenience to the people.
He also advised the people residing in villages and towns in the Godavari River catchment areas not to venture out of their houses and take all precautions as several streams and rivulets were in full spate.
The GHMC has given a red alert to the people staying in the low lying areas. The gates of Himayatsagar has been lifted to release the excess water into the Musi river.
Parts of Hyderabad and Secunderabad are already underwater. The roads have been damaged and people are facing Traffic snarls from time to time. There is water logging on the roads across the city.
