The Economic Survey, 2018 indicates that, the female Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) is 50% lower than male LFPR. The Ministry of Women and Child Development highlighted that women have limited access to skilling and 126 million people constituting 95% of women employed are in the informal sector. A recent International Monetary Fund report (2018) signified that an increase in women participation in the workforce to the same extent as men can increase India’s GDP by 27%.
However, the concept of work is shifting and changing with the emergence of the fourth industrial revolution, with business and Government recognising the role of technology, automation, big data and increased human-digital interface. While youth in India have to develop relevant skills sets, women who are at a greater disadvantage in terms of skills and employability need a specific set of initiatives to succeed.
Against this backdrop, the summit hopes to analyse and shape the core technical skills, soft skills, aspects for workplace readiness and entrepreneurship that can improve the levels of workforce participation of women, across the organised sectors.
Recognising these imperatives, UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 5) addressed the need for “Gender Equality” through a set of high-level goals.
The highlights of the summit include a thought leadership piece that will be brought out in collaboration with our knowledge partner, Deloitte on “Preparing Women for the 4th Industrial Revolution and presenting the 2nd Best Practices Awards on Gender Equality in India..
