The Government’s most ambitious Kanti Velugu medical camps successfully continuing across the state.
Under the Kanti Velugu Program more than one crore 58 lakh 35 thousand 947 people underwent eye tests till date out of which 22 lakh 21 thousand 494 people have been given reading glasses. The program took off with the slogan of "Blindness free" Telangana state which successfully continuing in 12,304 Gram Panchayats, Wards and 3598 Municipal Wards have completed eye tests.
On August 15, 2018, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao launched the first phase of Kanti Velugu program in Malkapur of Medak district to correct vision related. The program lasted for 8 months in which free eye tests were conducted for one crore 50 lakh people. Spectacles have been distributed free of cost to 50 lakh people. In the same spirit, the Chief Minister started the second phase of
Kanti Velugu program in Khammam on January 18, 2023. It is continuing successfully as per the planned objective. In 89 working days 96.21 percent of people got eye tests in the state. The government has decided to complete the eye tests for all the people state within the target of 100 working days.
Special Care is being taken during eye care without interrupting other medical services.All public representatives including Medical Department, Panchayat Raj,Municipal and other departments are actively participating in the program. The Government formed quality control teams at state and district level to monitor the functioning of teams.
Medical officials expressed the opinion that if the eye tests program continues in this way, there is a possibility of conducting eye tests for 2 crore people. They stated that the Telangana government is proud to take up such a massive program which has not been undertaken by any state in the country so
far.
