Jammi tree which since the Vedic period is revered by everyone was recognised as the State tree by the previous government led by Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao. Since Jammi is endangered due to several factors, Santosh Kumar has come up with the slogan ‘Uru Uruko Jammi Chettu – Gudigudiko Jammi Chettu’ on behalf of Green India Challenge.
In Telangana it is customary to worship Jammi tree on Dasara and it is also customary to exchange Jammi leaves with relatives and wish them good luck. In view of its importance, Santosh Kumar the BRS GS and former MP announced during the poster release held at Swarnagiri temple that during the upcoming Dasara Navratri festivities, the Jammi tree program will be started in each village and temple.
He said that more than 10,000 Jammi plants are already being prepared and these will be distributed to all the villages and temples. Santosh Kumar is popular for the tree plantation program across the country.Telugu people across and the country and also in some other countries are planting saplings in the name of GIC on the invitation of Santosh Kumar.
