Officials from the United Nations Environment and the Institute for Global Environment Strategies, Japan along with the Zonal Commissioner GHMC Harichandana visited the Gandipet community-based compost plant today.
The team comprising Mr Kazunobu Onogawa, Director IGES centre collaborating with UNEP on environmental technologies, Dr Premakumara Jagath Dickella Gamaralalage Senior Researcher, Mr Iyngararasan Mylvakanaam Programme officer, International Environmental Technology centre, Ms Soumya Chaturvedula, Ms Samskrutha, senior project officer and other members of the delegation evinced keen interest on the functioning of the compost plant.
They interacted with the members of the gandipet resident welfare associations and enquired about the challenges they had to face for setting up compost plant. The process of the compost plant was explained in detail by the members of the resident welfare association.
They also engaged in a group discussion with the community members and they were made to understand the existing process throughout and the pros and cons of their intervention.
Impressed by the effort of the residents of the welfare association, Ms Harichandana asked them to explore the possibility of replicating similar models in other parts of the city. She assured that the GHMC would provide the logistic support for the purpose.
