The Andhra Pradesh government’s decision to restrict Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations has become a major bone of contention between political parties in the state.
Based on a call by the BJP, protests were organised across districts by the BJP party cadre outside officers of District Collectors and other government offices in districts.
While the BJP claims the ‘anti-Hindu’ attitude of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government is out for all to see, the YSRCP has slammed the protests. The DGP has stated that there were no restrictions imposed on the celebrations.
Now the organisers are supposed to take permission from the fire services department also. The Mikes sets and DJ sets must have police permission.
The AP sadhu Parishad is demanding single window permission for the Ganesh Navathiri celebrations. The police said that prior permission from the police, revenue, fire, and electricity departments is mandatory to set up any kind of pandal even for one day.
The organisers should also obtain permission from the land owner whether it is public or private land without fail.
The organisers of the pandals should inform the police about the height, weight, the number of days for celebrations and the day of immersion along with the time, and procession route, the police said.
