The budget session of Telangana legislature commenced on Friday with the Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan who addressed its joint session to mark the occasion stressing that the aim of the government was to replace power holidays with the concept of `power everyday and any time’.
Stating that the aim of the government was to make the State `power surplus’, Narasimhan highlighted how the government ensured uninterrupted power supply last month although the demand for power reached a peak of 9,000 MW.
During the ensuing summer, although the demand for power was expected to reach 9,500 to 10,000 MW, the power utilities are gearing up to ensure uninterrupted supply without break. The government was striving to usher in a new era of progress and prosperity in the State with significant progress in power sector.
The government embarked upon a long term action plan to augment power generation in the State. While the installed generation capacity at the time of State formation in June 2014 was 6,574d MW, the government created an additional generation capacity of 4,190 MW in the last two-and-a-half years. Another 4,190 MW will be added by the end of the current year.
In addition, the Wardah – Dichpalli transmission line has been completed through which the State can tap 2,000 MW from northern grid from anywhere in the country as and when required. The government through these innovative measures of power management and augmentation of capacity has successfully transformed the State from a power deficit to a power surplus State.
The address of Governor was boycotted by Congress towards the end as there was no mention of the assurances of government on two bed room houses for poor, three acres of land to poor SC and ST families, 12 reservation of Muslims and STs and a sub-plan for backward classes
