The twin cities are gearing up for the Muharram. Muharram symbolizes the spirit of sacrifice. The spirit of sacrifice is placed above all the virtues of mankind.
They do what is called Matham a special way of mourning. They cut themselves on the chest and thump on the chest which is described as matham beating.
Groups of people observe matham openly on the streets on Friday to mark the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam.
Its like observing the grief for Imam.
Muharram commemorates the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad’s Grand Son Hazrat Imam Hussain, who sacrificed his life at the altar of true belief.
Remembrance of goodness and sacrifice are the two true meanings of Muharram. Let us emulate the spirit of Muharram which embodies humanism the central idea of Islam.
The ideals of equality, truth, fairness, sacrifice, peace and justice that symbolise the Muharram may continue to inspire us.
