The GHMC staff is on alert as the weather department has given a prediction of heavy rains for Hyderabad city.
With the weather forecast suggesting heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 12 to 14, the civic body has alerted all the field teams, officers and monsoon emergency teams to be prepared for incessant rainfall, as well as short-duration high-intensity rainfall in some areas of the city.
Mayor G Vijayalakshmi also held a meeting recently with officials of GHMC, Strategic Nala Development Plan (SNDP) and corporators of LB Constituency. GHMC LB Nagar zonal commissioner Upender Reddy said that around 95 per cent of desilting works have been completed in the zone, and works pertaining to repair of sluice gates near water bodies has been taken up with Rs 1.4 crore.
As LB Nagar zone was one of the most affected areas when flood lashed the city last year, the meeting was held with the stakeholders of that zone.
The temperatures in the city have dropped by at least 3 degree Celsius and the maximum temperature recorded on Friday was 30 degree Celsius. The officials at Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have alerted its officers to evacuate all dilapidated buildings and be ready with their monsoon emergency teams. In an official communication, the GHMC shared that all field teams, officers, and monsoon emergency teams may be alerted as they may expect incessant rainfall as well as short-duration high-intensity rainfall at certain areas of the city.
Minister for Animal Husbandry Tlasani Srinivas Yadav who is very familiar with the city conditions said that all the measures will be taken to see that the floods will not affect the low lying areas.
It will be done in a phased manner he said. Talasani took a meeting of the officials along with Mayor Hyderabad.
