Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has called for a healthy lifestyle and proper dietary habits to prevent and manage hypertension.
Terming hypertension as a silent killer, she said that unwarranted lifestyle habits are causing the aggravation in blood pressure. Uncontrolled hypertension is resulting in stroke, heart and kidney ailments and other serious health conditions.
The Governor was virtually addressing the meeting on the “Scientific Approach to Hypertension (SATH),” initiative launched by the Indian Society of Hypertension on Sunday.
Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan expressed concern that around 29 per cent of the people suffer from high blood pressure in the country. “The numbers are alarming and the consequences of ignoring the hypertension are turning out to be very serious,” she added.
The Governor urged the members of the Indian Society of Hypertension to strive to create better awareness about hypertension and help people manage their blood pressure by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
“The hypertension is essentially a lifestyle disorder. There must be greater awareness about the causes and consequences of high blood pressure. Regular practice of yoga must be made a part of the lifestyle in order to lead a healthy life,” she added.
Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan exhorted the people to follow increased physical activity, avoid a sedentary lifestyle, reduce the salt intake, and seeking regular medical help to prevent the serious consequences of high blood pressure.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the Indian Society of Hypertension representatives for their efforts in promoting awareness on hypertension and its management through a scientific approach
