INCOIS for innovative solutions to Industries

City-based Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services(INCOIS) is an organization under the Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Government of India.

As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations it organized a unique session to connect with the industries to realize the nation’s ambitions towards ‘Start-up India’ and ‘Make-in-India’ as well as ‘Make-for-India’.The event was chaired by Dr. T. Srinivasa Kumar, Director-INCOIS who during his welcomeremarks set the stage by providing an overview of opening avenues for collaborations in coming
times.

During this event, MoUs were signed with industries working on machine learning
(Spotfloc) to the fishery (InfiFresh) to underwater domain awareness (Maritime Research Centre).

The event was presided by the keynote speaker Dr. Anand Gupta, Additional Director
General(Development), Directorate General of Hydrocarbons who, like other industry partners appreciated INCOIS for being proactive in both providing services to the industries as well as collaborating with industries to develop innovative solutions in the country.
This was followed bya brainstorming panel discussion with panelists from about a dozen heterogeneous industries and moderated by Dr. T. M. Balakrishnan Nair (Group Director, Ocean Services and Applied Research Group at INCOIS).

These panellists stressed on a holistic approach for the Atma-nirbharta
or self-reliance. This means the sustained growth of the Indian industry can happen if the sensors and chips for the ocean observation systems are made in India. Similarly, Indian fishermen are keen for reliable services towards deep sea fishing and farming to meet country’s nutritional requirements.

It was assured that the Indian industries are capable and keen to develop the instruments needed by the country provided that they are supported for getting acquainted with the ocean domain and instrument prototype testing.

The event was coordinated by Shri E Pattabhi Rama Rao with the help of scientists Dr. R. Hari Kumar and Dr. Nimit Kumar. INCOIS scientists Dr. Sudheer Joseph, Dr. Aneesh Lotliker and Dr. TVS Udaya Bhaskar presented about INCOIS services and activities.
