Prime Narendra Modi is at the receiving end now for the mounting Covid deaths in the country. Modi was first praised for this effort in preventing the deaths last year.

But in the second phase, the condition is miserable. The deaths are on the rise day in and day out. The Government was not prepared to face the situation.

Indian Medical Association (IMA) Vice-President Navjot Dahiya slammed Modi for trying to pass the buck of his failure on the private medical sector and state governments.

Global media organisations had already criticised Modi and his government for their inept handling of the second wave of Covid-19.

The IMA president took exception to Modi according to permission to the farmers’ stir in Delhi. He did not act in a responsible manner by allowing the farmers to stage a protest which was a potential ground for the spread of Covid-19, he pointed out.

On the other hand, Dr Dahiya said the entire medical system is failing as PM did not take any step to strengthen it during the entire year.

In January 2020, Modi, instead of making arrangements to tackle the infection, when the first Coronavirus case was registered in the country, organised gatherings with over 1 lakh people in Gujarat to welcome the then US President Donald Trump.
