Rajeshwar Kumar, Director for Indian Institute of Legal Metrology, Ranchi, appreciated the efforts of Telangana government’s steps to safeguard consumer rights and benefits. He said, Telangana Legal Metrology Department has taken major steps for preventing pricing more than MRP, weights and measurement frauds, particularly safeguarding farmers getting seeds, fertilizers at actual price and accurate weight. Telangana Legal Metrology Department has shown path to other states for taking steps in preventing irregularities.
Rajeshwar Kumar participated in one day workshop organized by Telangana Legal Metrology Department on Legal Metrology Act and Rules. Officials from all the districts participated in this workshop.
Rajeshwar Kumar met Akun Sabharwal, Controller for Legal Metrology Department at Civil Supplies Bhavan. He said, there is more requirement of creating awareness of rules and guidelines to manufacturers and consumers.
He appreciated on the measures taken up by the Legal Metrology Department on the complaints received from consumers on the shopping mall, multiplexes, cinema theatre collecting higher rates more than MRP. In particularly safeguarding farmers from the frauds of traders and manufacturers in selling seeds, pesticides and fertilizers.
He praised the department efforts to improve working standard by providing vehicles, laptops and other basic requirements to the Legal Metrology officials and staff and established working standard laboratories in districts.
Controller Akun Sabharwal said Legal Metrology Department has conducted raids on shopping malls, multiplexes, cinema halls, petrol bunks and weigh bridges, godowns of branded companies, seeds-fertilizer outlets and cases of GST violations. In last three months 1276 cases have been booked and Rs. 22 crore worth goods have been seized.
