More than 12 centimetres of rain has been recorded in and around Hyderabad last night. Almost all the areas in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Secunderabad were drenched in rain.
Rainwater entered some of houses, offices and also some police stations across the city. The rain started in the evening and it continued till midnight. The vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt in many of the low lying areas. Mayor Bonthu Rammaohan came out in midnight to clear the water and the traffic jams. He visited many areas and this morning he is scheduled to visit Tankbund which is overflowing.
Mayor was there at the control room located in the GHMC office. There are several areas underwater here in the city ever today and the GHMC staff is trying to clear the clogged drains so that the water flows away easily.
Some old houses collapsed due to the heavy rain that lashed the city. Most of the lakes and canals are overflowing across the state. The water is overflowing into the villages and the villagers are forced to vacate the houses.
The situation might continue for another two days it is reported.
