Haryana wrestlers start favourite at Chittoor

Defending champions Haryana start favourites in the 36th boys free style, Greco Roman and 19th girls cadet National sub-junior wrestling championship which will get underway at the DSA stadium, Chittoor tomorrow.

In the 35th edition held at Guhwati last year, Haryana wrestlers dominated in all the categories, while Delhi, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh also put up a nice performance.

Anju and Neha, who will be representing Haryana A in the girls freestyle will be the strong contenders in this three-day meet. The host team will be relying on Manju, Neha and Mobina, who have been continuously winning laurels for the state in recent times at National level.

In the School nationals conducted at Parbini in 2015 Manju and Niharika stole the show winning bronze, while Mobina has won hat-trick of state titles. Andhra Pradesh won a bronze in 2013 before the state was separated with Veerababu being outstanding in u-19 category. Telangana will be expecting Sumalatha and Shiva to rise to the ocassion.

Overall more than 900 wrestlers from 27 states are participating in this mega event, being hosted for the first time by Andhra Pradesh. The stalwarts of this meet will be selected to represent India in the ensuing junior and senior international meets and also a list of probables will be made for the Tokyo Olympics. So, its a huge opportunity for all the aspiring upcoming wrestlers to make the most of this wonderful opportunity to showcase their skills.

The logo and the brochure of the event was unveiled by G Srinivas, Superintendent of Police, Chittoor, while RK Purushotham, organising secretary, LV Sudhakar sec, Dst AWA, K Padmanabham, treasurer APOA, M Chandrashekar, president DOA, NP Jayaprakash, former basketball player and also making a big contribution for this championship graced the ocassion.
