Biryani could not get the GI tag as the people who applied for the same could not make the right king of presentations and arguments it is reported. The Deccani Biryani Makers Association who applied for Geographical Indication (GI) Tag for the world-famous Hyderabad Biryani. could not win the 9-year-long battle. They failed to provide necessary proofs and could not argue the case properly it is reported.
The Deccani Biryani Makers Associations applied for GI Tag for ‘Hyderabadi Katchi Gosh Biryani’. Details about the process of preparation of the traditional Hyderabad Biryani were submitted to GI Registry with photographs.It is reported that no one appeared before GI Registry for the showcause hearing. No one replied to the queries raised by the GI Officials it is learnt.
Geographical Indication Registry based in Chennai refused GI Tag for Hyderabad Biryani citing that the applicant failed to prove its historical origin with documented evidence. Now, The Applicant can furtherappeal to the Intellectual Property Appellate Board in Chennai within 3 months for obtaining GI Tag.
Deccani Biryani Makers Associations questioned, ‘When Hyderabad Haleem could get the GI Tag, why not Hyderabad Biryani? What historical evidence do they require? Should we show them Nizam eating biryani they questioned. Tag or not tag, there is nothing to beat Hyderabadi Biryani. These days some people are serving their own style of Biryani and naming it as Hyderabad biryani. In some cases the real taste is missing.
