Tamilisai Soundararajan, Hon’ble Governor and Chancellor interacted with Prof. Ch. Gopal Reddy, Registrar, Prof. Sriram Venkatesh, Controller of Examinations and ten other Professors of Osmania University through videoconference.
The University Functionaries briefed the Hon’ble Governor about the activities of the University, various initiatives undertaken to improve quality access, revising the syllabi, utilization of RUSA funds (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) etc.
Hon’ble Governor and Chancellor enquired about academic, administrative aspects, such as infrastructure facilities, hostel facilities, various courses, online classes, introduction of new courses, land disputes, faculty position, connecting with the Alumni, etc.
The Hon’ble Governor advised the Osmania University Functionaries to –
(i) see that the Heritage structures and other infrastructure are protected and well maintained;
(ii) encourage new innovative courses, especially job oriented courses in collaboration with industries;
(iii) improvise the syllabi, study material of arts courses, and other required steps for enhancing employability of the students;
(iv) safeguard the University lands and see that even one inch of University land is not encroached;
(v) see that unreached students of online classes also move forward with the help of reached students;
(vi) see that the pass percentage is improved;
(vii) make utilize the very big resource of University Alumni by creating database and a separate wing headed by a Professor to get connected with the Alumni in an organized manner by reaching each one of them by the next Formation Day of the State;
(viii) give a clarion call to the pride Alumni to support younger generation coming from the parent University.
(ix) prepare an action plan to deal with post COVID-19 situation for maintaining social distancing, and hygiene in hostels;
(x) improve online classes;
(xi) be proactive and improve research activities;
(xii) improve morality, as graduation is not just conferring degrees; and
(xiii) fill up the vacant posts teaching and non-teaching after COVID-19;
The Registrar, Osmania University has been asked to furnish complete details of land disputes relating the University to Raj Bhavan, to take care of the issue by effective handling of the disputes by taking expert legal advice. The Hon’ble Governor assured that the issues relating to the University such as large vacancies of faculty positions, vacancies of non-teaching staff, infrastructure facility needs, land issues will be taken up positively with the Government, and see that they are effectively addressed to.
Hon’ble Governor while applauding the good work carried out by the functionaries of the prestigious University where iconic stalwarts like Sri P.V. Narasimha Rao, former Prime Minister and Sri Jayapal Reddy, former Union Minister studied, appealed all the functionaries and faculty members of Osmania University to strive hard in making the State as “the Leader” in the field of Higher Education, by overcoming weaknesses and improving the strengths.
