The tickets of Garib Rath Express, are set to become costlier. The bedroll rates may go up for the Garib Rath and also for all other trains as maintaining the linen has become a burden for the Railways. The rates of these bedrolls have not been raised and it remained the same. But the maintenance has gone up like anything. To keep up with the expenditure and the market trend and to avoid the looses in Railways the department has decided to raise the rate of Garib Rath tickets.
The rates of tickets will be revised and the tariff for the bedrolls will also be revised according to the sources. The CAG has questioned as to why there was no revision in the tariff. The CAG officials opined that there should have been a revision in the rates of the bedrolls at least as it was not done since last decade. It looks like the Railways will look at the overall scenario and raise the rates of tickets and also the bedrolls to make up the difference in the near future.
The rethink follows a note from the office of the deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), asking why a revision had not taken place for the “poor man’s chariot” and recommending that the cost of the bedroll be included in the train fare. “We have received the note and we are reviewing it. Prices cannot remain the same forever. There will be a review of the bedroll charges of the Garib Rath trains and they will likely be included in the price of the ticket in the next six months,” a senior official said.
