It is just two days left for the Ganesh Navratri. The shopping for the First festival of the Telugu people has started.
But the people say that the idols are costly this year when compared to the last year. Ganapathi idols are made from 10 to 20 feet tall.
Overall the festival is going to become costly for the people as the grocery has also become expensive these days after Corona.
The idol makers are unable to match the demand and could only make around half as many idols as they typically would have due to uncertainty.
This year, the 50ft Ganesh Idol is being made at a cost of Rs 1 crore at Khairatabad. The huge Ganesh Idol will be placed at the pandal for a few days for public darshan. To make it eco-friendly, the idol was made with clay. Every year, the idol is made of Plaster of Paris (POP).
“The majority of the smaller idols, which range in size from 5 inches to 3 feet, are being brought from Nagpur, Sholapur, and Pune as demand has increased.
Since thousands of local artists depend on this category of idols, for business. But they are costly when they add the transport.
The cost of the raw materials has increased, and the labourers, whose daily wage was `400, now demand `800 apart from their food costs. This year, the 50ft Ganesh Idol is being made at a cost of Rs 1 crore. The huge Ganesh Idol will be placed at the pandal for public darshan.
To make it eco-friendly, the idol was made with clay. Every year, the idol is made of Plaster of Paris (POP). But some NGOs and the HMDA are distributing eco-friendly Ganeshas made of clay for free of cost to protect the environment and avoid pollution.
