This time the Khairatabad Ganesh idol is made with a height of 61 feet. Around 159 artisans have worked round the clock for 4 months to get the gaesha ready for the Pooja.
With Power cables going underground at Khairtabad there is no issue with the height of Ganesha.
Like every year, the tallest Ganesh idol will be installed in Khairatabad, the heart of the city. The idol was made of mud and watercolours with PoP as a binding agent.
Forty-five special artisans from Chennai are working to get the Khairatabad Ganesh idol ready for the festival on September 2.
Ganesh Utsav Samiti members said work on the idol began after Ekadashi. Actually, the idea of the Ganesh Committee Khairatabad was to reduce the height of the idol by one foot every year. But this year they did not bother about the height.

The construction of the idol begins three months prior to the festival day with around 200 workers led by master artisans.
On the 11th day, a big procession takes place and the Ganesh idol is immersed at Hussain Sagar Lake with the help of cranes. The “Khairatabad Ganesh” was initiated by late S. Sankarayya, who was a freedom fighter and since then it has been the grandest Ganesh Utsav in Hyderabad.
