With Manohar Parrikar headed to Goa as the next Chief Minister, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will take an additional charge as the country’s Defence Minister.
In May 2014, Mr Jaitley had started out his innings in the Modi Government with responsibility for the finance and defence ministries.
In November 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought in Manohar Parrikar from Goa to take charge of the defence ministry. In Goa, the BJP named Laxmikant Parsekar to head the government in the state.
But as the just-concluded assembly elections reflected, Mr Parsekar was not able to match his predecessor and even lost elections from the two seats that he had contested from.
It may be noted that Parrikar was feeling like home sick in Delhi not having his favorite dishes and drinks from Goa. He was flying to Goa now and then but was not happy in Delhi personally.
