Mega-producer Suresh the brother of hero Venkatesh has decided to go for the OTT release of Narappa and also Drishyam movies.

They are not waiting for the theatres to open. That is the trend in Tollywood. But the Exhibitors are unhappy. They want the producers to hold the movies for the theatres.

They do not want to lose the business.

Many products see a digital release as an alternate but frankly, they have no choice. There were no theatres for the producers to take the films.

Plus, on digital, this is not a compromised release. When it comes to a Hindi film that would have, on the higher side, travelled to 20 markets, this film will now release in 200 countries,” he said.

The Pan India movies made in 5 languages can definitely go on the digital platform.

Theatre will coexist with the digital platform. There is no question about it. Theatres and filmmakers, we are a family,” says a popular director.

He argues that no filmmakers want to miss the opportunity to take his film to the big screen because a theatrical release is “a big event” that rewards the work of all those who are part of the project.

For adman-turned-filmmaker Ram Madhvani, the advent of direct-to-digital films is a chance to break free from the shackles of commercial cinema and the “Friday Mafia” and to create a palette of stories for different audiences.

That said, there are big spectacle films that cannot be enjoyed without the cinematic experience. They have to be seen with family and friends and refreshments. Theatre isn’t going anywhere,” he said.

Films like Baahubali and RRR are meant for the big screen. You cannot go for OTT. It looks like the OTT is here to stay.
