As part of the Telangana Rashtra Dashabdi Utsavalu, the State Police Organized State consultation on Anti Human Trafficking -Rescue and Rehabilitation for all SJPUs, AHTUs, ALOs, CWC, DCPUs and NGOs Telangana Women Safety Wing in collaboration with Bachpan Bachao Andolan on 6th June.
A state level consultation has been organized to encourage the stakeholders to intensify their fight against child trafficking.
Speaking at the workshop, Sri. Anjani Kumar Director General of Police reiterated the need for combating Human Trafficking with active participation of all stakeholders as this menace has turned out to be the 3rd largest organized crime in the world. He said that Telangana is first among all states in the country in taking concrete steps against Human trafficking. He urged the participants to actively participate in the consultation program which is aimed at imparting professional skills to combat trafficking. He requested them to share the knowledge gained by them with the officers in the field.
Smt Shikha Goel, ADG, WSW stated that the Women Safety Wing is the nodal agency in the state with respect to all activities relating to human trafficking. She informed that Telangana is the first state to have functioning AHT units in all the police districts. She said that the Telangana Police follows a zero tolerance policy towards Human trafficking and in the last 2 years due to the concentrated efforts of WSW and AHT units, 738 cases were registered and 1961 accused arrested. Also 110 accused were booked under Preventive Detention Law. She also informed that the AHTU unit of WSW is helping the Police Units in tracing out missing children and the percentage of children traced in Telangana (96%) is amongst the highest in the Country. She stated that the WSW also Conducts rescue operations in collaboration with NGOs and other stakeholders. She informed that the WSW is in the process of developing mechanism to break the trafficking network through professional data management.
