All eyes are now focused on Tamilanadu and they are awaiting for the big announcement of Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao. It is learnt that the Governor has given 5 days time to Panneer Selvam the acting Chief Minister.
It is like an acid test to the Governor Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao, who turns 75 on Sunday. This decision will stick to him for his life time.
Will he follow established democratic norms and invite the leader who claims majority in the House to form government, or will he pay heed to populist sentiment and realpolitik?
This can become a precedent to the Governors in the near future. This will go into the textbooks on how a Governor, who typically is seen more than heard, can play a very critical role in the political events of a State.
Now CHV has to muster his over 50 years of political experience to find an amicable solution to the political turmoil in TN. But he is consulting the legal luminaries also. He has to take the Home Minister Rajnath Singhinto confidence also. He can call Sasikala, but if court finds fault with her is the big question?
He has to be impartial, as per constitution and not get pressurised with the politics especially from his party BJP.
BJP is already looking at the South and this has come in hand for them. The decision to be taken by the Governor will have a bearing on the future of his party.
A firebrand student leader hailing from Karimnagar district, known as a Naxal hotspot, Rao graduated in law from Osmania University and led many agitations.
He has fought many a tough battle, and served as both MLA and MP.
A hardcore BJP man who began his political journey with the Jan Sangh, Rao has long years of experience, both in governance and opposition roles.
He was the BJP President for Andhra Pradesh. He served as Home Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government in 1999-2004.He is distantly related to the CM of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Lets hope CHV will win this test of his life time.
