The Election Commission has announced the schedule for holding assembly elections in five states. The election code will come into effect with immediate effect.
This election for 5 states can be termed as a semifinal for the political parties in India.
The commission has announced the dates for assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Mizoram.
The term of the Mizoram assembly ends on December 17. The Mizo National Front is in power in the northeastern state. The terms of the legislative assemblies of Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan end on different dates in January next year.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) rules Telangana, Madhya Pradesh is ruled by the BJP. The Congress is in power in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
Last week, the ECI had organised a briefing for general, police and expenditure observers for the upcoming Assembly polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Mizoram.
During this meeting, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) directed observers to ensure a level-playing field by working in a coordinated manner to ensure free, fair and inducement-free elections.
In Telangana, the elections will be for 119 seats. Mijoram 40 seats, Chattisgarh 90 seats, Madhyapradesh 230 seats, Rajasthan 200 seats.
The Chattisgarh polls will be in two phases and all other states will go for polls in a single phase. one-sixth of the country’s voters will go to the polls.1.77 lakh polling stations. 940 check posts in 5 states for elections.
