CM K Chandrashekhar Rao said discrimination of Dalits can be removed by strengthening them economically. “The participants in today’s conference should be successful in Huzurabad and in the days ahead, should create awareness among Dalits across Telangana.
If the Dalit Bandhu programme is successful, it will pave the way for the economic development of not only Dalits, but also Telangana State,” he said. He emphasised the need to improve mutual trust and cooperation within the Dalit community. In this direction, he suggested that the Dalits should end personal feuds and withdraw cases that they filed against each other in the police stations across the State.
He wanted them to develop mutual brotherhood that would pave the path to the collective success of the Dalit community.
Chief Minister KCR pointed out that the State government had dismissed the policemen involved in the lock-up death of Dalit woman Mariamma, from their jobs and stated that the government was ready to support the Dalits at all junctures.
“When the government itself is in your favour, the Dalit community must persevere in self-development and achieve success. The delegates at today’s conference must work like the watchdogs for success of the scheme and in coordination with the government agencies, we must strengthen the scheme,” he added.
In addition to the financial assistance provided through the Dalit Bandhu Scheme, a Security Fund will be established on a permanent basis with the participation of the government and the beneficiary.
The Dalit fund will be managed by a committee of beneficiaries under the supervision of the respective district collectors. “By depositing a minimum amount of money every year, we will continue to maintain the Dalit Security Fund and utilise it to support the beneficiaries dire circumstances,” he said.
