Cross-voting for TDP

The TDP has no strength, but it wants to win one seat for Rajya Sabha in Andhra Pradesh. They want to field Varla Ramaiah for the same. They are expecting cross-voting from the YSRC MLAs.

Despite this bleak scenario for the TD, it is hoping to get the support of some YSRC MLAs unhappy with the ruling party who were either not given tickets for the next polls or moved to other constituencies.

The mood of the TDP is upbeat now and they can lure some YSRC MLAs who are not getting the seats into TDP and take the votes for RS election.

The party is likely to nominate Varla Ramaiah again. At present, the state assembly has a strength of 174. With the Speaker accepting the resignation of TD MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, the TD’s count is down to 22.

The ruling YSRC has 151 members as well as the support of the lone Jana Sena Party (JSP) MLA. Sources in the TD said the party is likely to field its nominee for one of the Rajya Sabha seats and will work out “strategies” to ensure the candidate’s win.

The TDP has only 22 members but it is expecting cross-voting from the YSRC members who are expecting seats from the TDP for the coming election.

The cross-voting might happen in the open and the MLAs might cross over to the TDP after the voting.
